"They sound like a whole festival wrapped up in one band!"
Bruce MacGregor, BBC Radio Scotland
A multi-national band with Scottish and German members, CARA tour worldwide with unique interpretations of Celtic music, firmly rooted in the Irish and Scottish tradition, presenting innovative arrangements of traditional material alongside critically acclaimed original compositions.
"Cara sound like Cara - there can't be a higher recommendation"
Folker! Magazine (Germany)
Fronted by two female lead singers, CARA combine vocals, piano, fiddle, flute, guitar, dobro, bodhrán, uilleann pipes and accordion with a dry-witted and charismatic stage presence. They have headlined some of the largest Irish music festivals and brought audiences to their feet across the USA, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark. Most recently, they received excellent feedback after performances at Dublin Irish Fest 2014, (Ohio, USA), Cork Folk Festival 2014 (Ireland), and Celtic Connections Scotland (2016), where they played a sold-out album launch concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
“one of the hottest Irish music bands on the international circuit[...] Cara have joined the ranks of Solas, Dervish and Altan, big tunes, big ideas and superb playing." Irish Music Magazine
Established in 2003, and with two Irish Music Awards (Best New Irish Artist 2010, and Top Group 2011), five studio albums and countless live performances under their belts, CARA effortlessly navigate the tightrope between Trad and Singer-Songwriter, between Nu Folk and Acoustic Pop They sound so blithe and full of verve, hard-core trad fans unite with acoustic-pop listeners and in the end they all end up dancing and singing together.
Kim Edgar (vocals, piano) from Edinburgh, Scotland and Gudrun Walther (vocals, fiddle, diatonic accordion) from Southern Germany are in perfect command of their instruments, but above all it is their voices that enchant the audience. Expressive solo singers, their voices also blend beautifully to become one sound, bringing new life to traditional ballads and sharing original songs, some of them co-written, that are guaranteed to give you goose bumps!
Hendrik Morgenbrodt may be young, but he is an excellent uilleann piper, and every musician who hears him play has to acknowledge the mastery of his instrument, which is not one of the easy ones to play and maintain to begin with... after joining the band in 2014, Hendrik has been making a name for himself on the CARA tours - a new star rising on the pipes scene, and he is an uilleann pipe maker as well!
Juergen Treyz (guitar, dobro) from South Germany has his own concept of "backing", providing the band with well thought out and exciting harmonic and rhythmic accompaniment and beautiful solos. His playing on DADGAD guitar and dobro inspires and lifts the CARA sound.
With Rolf Wagels, the band adds Germany’s best (and biggest) bodhrán player. He has been playing and teaching in Germany, Ireland and the US with an ever-expanding list of highly regarded musicians and bands.
